I left the house without taking down the ten songs I listened to for the Friday Random Ten AND Last.FM is spending some quality time upgrading their track submission code, so I can't look 'em up. Instead, I'll just use the Last.FM radio feature and see what the patent-pending recommendation algorithm suggests I listen to this morning.
Da Rules: "So! You know what day it is! Time to put your digital music player on shuffle, click play, and list the first ten songs that show up. You must resist the temptation to click past the bad or embarrassing songs."
- "So Cruel" by U2 - Achtung Baby is one of those albums where you could put it on repeat for a whole day and I wouldn't be sick of it come quitting time.
- "Trains to Brazil" by Guillemots - S'ok. Considering the opening song in this set, they sound a little like U2.
- "Drive Away" by Gratitude - Hooray for happy, bouncy pop music. This is like a simpler Semisonic. The booty has been shaken.
- "All That I'm Good For" by Hem - This is funny mainly because of how much Miranda loves Hem. Tunes from Rabbit Songs are always popping up on mixes for me or when we're listening to her iPod. This song sounds like it could be from the Almost Famous soundtrack.
- "Waitress" by Live - "Everybody's good enough for some change, some fucking cha-a-a-ange." Oh, the memories! Hah, I forgot about the whistling! It's too bad Live went to crap later because I enjoyed their odd form of rock.
- "Needle Can't Burn (What the Needle Can't Find)" by Seven Mary Three - This guy's vocals have always irritated me. I will, for the sake of science, listen to the whole song.... Blech.
- "I Want to Save You" by Something Corporate - And now for some pop punk filler. Generic lyrics but a fun tune.
- "Cash Machine" by Hard-Fi - I swear, every time I'm on YouTube.com there's a link to another video for this song. Personally, I like the one where the band are miniature miners working inside a cash machine. The song is actually quite catchy and I love the "hole in my pocket" bit at the end. If I weren't at work, I'd find you guys a YouTube link.
- "Sister Luck" by The Black Crowes - A while back, when I was playing tapes in the car that I was borrowing from Jake & Cerra, I rediscovered Shake Your Money Maker and what a joy that album is for me. This song is great but I wish it had played "Twice As Hard" which kicks all the asses.
- "(Nothing But) Flowers" by Talking Heads - And we close with one of my all-time favorite Talking Heads tracks. The Guster cover of this from Guster on Ice is excellent too.
Minorly Enjoyed: That needle song by Seven Mary Three. I'd be happy not to hear that again. Or anything else from Rock Crown, I would presume.
Majorly Enjoyed: And the award goes to "(Nothing But) Flowers" from Naked. Talking Heads have got to be pretty happy with this win. Then again, they already have so much praise heaped on them, it might be hard to hear the cheering of one man in the crowd.
Others: Marissa has many, many links on her post (which is good because I'm a little busy at work).
In closing, I miss the honky tonks, Dairy Queens, and 7-Elevens.Located: a desk Feeling: busy Listening: "Red Oyster Cult" by Guster
